Baby born at 35,000 feet gets early start on frequent flier miles

How's this for a jetsetter: A baby girl was born midair on a plane from Jordan to New York City on Tuesday.


Vera Jaber, a 33-year-old Jordanian, was traveling alone when she went into labor on Royal Jordanian Flight 261. She gave birth to a 6-pound, 5-ounce girl at about 5 p.m. ET, and the plane landed safely at John F. Kennedy International at about 7:30 p.m.



A doctor and nurse were on board and able to help with the delivery, according to Joe Pentangelo, a spokesman for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. The mother and baby were taken to Jamaica Hospital in Queens. Read more...
