Travel watchdog warns vacationers about resort fees hidden in the small print

A reminder to anyone booking travel to escape to a warmer climate this winter: Read the fine print, or you may be surprised by extra fees.


UK watchdog Which? is warning consumers about resort fees that turn seemingly great deals into something not so great. The group researched deals available through popular booking websites, and found "hidden" fees as high as £50 ($78) per day.



The properties Which? singled out were in New York City, Las Vegas and Florida.


At the Westhouse Hotel in New York, in addition to the room rate, there is a mandatory $35 fee, "per adult per night." The fee is for a daily breakfast, beverages and refreshments, Wi-Fi, local calls, a business center, in-room bottled water, daily housekeeping and digital newspapers and magazines.
