Filled Under:

The advantages and pitfalls of the modern hiring process

Linkedin

This question originally appeared on Quora.

What is wrong with the hiring process? It seems as if something is broken in the way people hire and get hired. Endless forms have to be filled out, nothing is unified and GitHub, StackOverflow (for developers) or Dribbble (for designers) are often not taken into consideration. How could the hiring process be fixed?

I can speak as a recruiter who mostly hires developers (but other people as well). There is definitely "old school" and "new school" when it comes to the hiring process. Sadly, this also applies to candidates. I can't tell you how many times someone attempts to fax (yes fax, not even send) a paper resume or addresses their cover letter to "The Office of the CEO." Tragedy. I don't think it's possible to answer a broad question such as "What is wrong with the recruiting process?" Some days I feel like I could just as easily ask "What is wrong with candidates these days?" Read more...
