Spike Lee is trying to be the most modern director in Hollywood


The Oscar-nominated director and writer's new film, Da Sweet Blood of Jesus, doesn't just embrace modernity — it throws itself headfirst into the zeitgeist. It was funded on Kickstarter (which the millionaire director caught flak for), and the soundtrack was compiled from a dozen unsigned artists, whom Lee recruited through social media.



Though his filmography isn't perfect, he has a golden touch with music. That was evident way back in '89, when he tapped Public Enemy to pen a track for his newest, hottest joint, Do the Right Thing. The hip-hop group ended up writing "Fight the Power," a politically charged anthem that's already been sealed in history as one of the best songs of all time. Read more...
