Hannah Horvath is the modern antiheroine. She is selfish, narcissistic and insensitive. She displays self-absorption more often than self-awareness. She is frequently (and often bafflingly) unlikeable. Yet, I found myself rooting for Hannah in episode 3, "Female Author," and relishing her epic takedown of all those sneering Iowa classmates.
And what a takedown it is.
For someone who seems to lacks the capacity for introspection, Hannah is able to dole out searing criticisms of her classmates with aplomb:
Jeffrey, the "rich whiny white guy" who "probably only [has] one ball"
Chester, the "tragically hip gayasian" whose "whole story is a winky eye emoji followed by a poop emoji"
Chandra, whose "exotic name" makes her feel entitled to be "the first and foremost authority on third-world issues here in Iowa"
Priya, who keeps "writing about prisons in the South"
Logan, the "bad-mood Mille"
