DRESDEN, Germany — Thousands gathered here on Monday to show their support for a growing movement against what they call the "Islamization of Europe."
It was the 12th and largest march organized by a grassroots group that has been on the ascent since the fall, as Germany absorbs record numbers of asylum seekers from war-torn Syria.
The group calls itself Pegida, or the Patriotic Europeans Against the Islamization of the West. Its members have voiced concerns over everything from the economic impact of refugees to the threat of terrorism.
