New Yorkers are about to shell out a bit more cash to ride the subway
The Metropolitan Transportation Authority approved a proposal on Thursday to raise the cost of a single New York City subway or bus ride to $2.75 in March, from $2.50. Weekly passes will go from $30 to $31, and monthly passes will go up $4.50 to a total of $116.50
“We made a commitment to live within the rate of inflation, 2% per year … and that’s what we are going to continue to do," MTA CEO Thomas Prendergast said at a press conference on Thursday
He said a fee hike is not something the MTA takes lightly, but it was necessary as the cost of maintaining the quality, security and reliability of the subway system continues to climb. Read more...
