LONDON — The M15 director-general gave a rare public speech Thursday evening warning about a group of core al-Qaeda terrorists in Syria planning mass casualty attacks in the West.
“We face a very serious level of threat that is complex to combat and unlikely to abate significantly for some time," he said adding that plots for three UK attacks had been prevented by authorities in recent months that he said would certainly have otherwise resulted in deaths
Parker's speech at the Security Service headquarters on the banks of the River Thames came a day after an attack in Paris at the offices of satirical publication Charlie Hebdo that left 12 people dead.
