Libby Lane consecrated as first female Church of England bishop

LONDON — The Church of England consecrated its first female bishop during a ceremony at York Minster on Monday, putting an end to hundreds of years of male-only leadership.


Reverend Libby Lane was ordained as the Bishop of Stockport in front of more than 1,000 well wishers during the two-hour service led by the Archbishop of York, John Sentamu.



But there was one dissenting voice among the masses.


Reverend Paul Williamson shouted "not in my name" and "not in the Bible" after Sentamu asked the congregation if Lane should be ordained as a bishop. Read more...
