Ford opens new Silicon Valley Research Center with focus on self-driving cars

Ford is coming to Silicon Valley.


The auto manufacturer opened on Thursday a new facility, called the Silicon Valley Research Center, which will focus on experimental projects, including self-driving cars.



"We want to be viewed as part of the ecosystem here in Silicon Valley," Ford CEO Mark Fields told press at the Palo Alto-based center Thursday. "It’s a marketplace of ideas; it’s really important to be here."


Located in Stanford University's backyard, the company said it aims to have 125 researchers, engineers and scientists working at the the Silicon Valley Research Center by the end of this year. Read more...
