As manhunt continues, Paris remembers Charlie Hebdo victims

PARIS — As the manhunt for the suspects in the attack on the satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo continued on Thursday, thousands gathered around France to pay tribute to the victims by lighting candles, singing songs and holding pens aloft in remembrance of the slain journalists.



At the Place de la République in central Paris, the pedestal around the statue of Marianne was covered in cartoons, notes and small candle lights. At 8 p.m. local time, the lights went out on the Eiffel Tower to honor those who lost their lives




On Wednesday, masked gunmen shot and killed 12 people, including two police officers, various prominent cartoonists and the magazine's editor in chief. The gunmen shouted "Allahu Akbar" as they exited the building of Charlie Hebdo, which had previously received threats after publishing caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad.
