Amtrak passengers on an eastbound train spent nearly 14 hours delayed at Chicago's Union Station because of mechanical problems caused by weather.
The train was originally scheduled to leave Chicago at 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, and travel first to New York and then Boston. The delay kept the train from leaving until 7:55 a.m. Thursday morning, but the trip was then further delayed because Amtrak decided the crew was too tired. The train turned around and did not get on the way until 11 a.m.
The 172 passengers stranded in Chicago were offered food and blankets, and allowed to wait in the station and aboard the train, according to Amtrak spokesman Marc Magliari. Read more...
