Al-Qaeda's Yemen branch claims responsibility for Charlie Hebdo attack

A video released Wednesday by Yemen's al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula claims responsibility for the attack on the office of Charlie Hebdo that took place in Paris last week



On Jan. 7 two masked gunmen killed 12 people, including much of the weekly's editorial staff and two police officers at the office of the satirical publication. It was the beginning of three days of attacks that left 17 people dead


Nasr al-Ansi, a top commander of al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula, or AQAP as the branch is known, appeared in an 11-minute video, saying that the massacre at Charlie Hebdo was in "vengeance for the prophet." The paper had published cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad, which is considered an insult in Islam. Read more...
