NYC woman in trouble for making $61,000 on Airbnb with rent-stabilized apartment

A New York City judge has ordered an Upper West Side woman to stop renting out her rent-stabilized apartment on Airbnb immediately.


Noelle Penraat, 62, made $61,000 in nine months from renting out three of the four bedrooms in her apartment, according to the judge. Penraat's landlord, Brookford LLC, sued her in October.


"She has been profiteering from a rent-controlled apartment partially subsidized by another government program," wrote the judge, who found that Brookford LLC has grounds to evict her.



Penraat pays about $4,200 per month for the rent-controlled and senior-subsidized apartment she inherited from her father, according to the New York Post , but can bring in as much as $6,500 per month in short-term rental income. Read more...
